In today’s Indie Highlight we talk to developer Logan Mayers

So, please tell us a bit about your game

Fallen Leaf is a retro-styled platforming adventure set in a world featuring all sorts of unexpected characters and locations. You’ll guide Leaf and his friends through numerous compact and challenging levels as you try to help an ancient wizard settle his score with the ultimate evil.

It isn’t just about the levels, though, as you’ll also visit towns filled with NPCs that provide optional weapons, wacky mini games, or at the very least some absurd dialogue. All of this is connected via the giant overworld maps with expanding paths and secrets to discover.

And who are you? Tell us about your studio

I’m Logan, and together with my cousin Eddie we form Delta Shore Games. My brother, Chase, helps out from time to time, but he’s very busy studying bugs and fungus as a microbiologist.

All of us have been dabbling in game design from a very young age; looking back, we’ve got countless little video game sketches from the time of browsing the yoyo games forums after school. As amusing as those are, we eventually decided to take it a bit more seriously to see what we could really do, and so here we are! Still, our philosophy has very much been to “just go for it” as we continue to improve our skills.

Both Eddie and I come up with the various design elements together, and from there we attempt to bring it to life with my programming and his artwork. Then it’s time to build up the actual content of the game using what we’ve made–rinse and repeat. At some point along the way I find the time to squeeze out some music tracks as well.

What inspired you to create a game such as yours?

We all grew up playing the NES, so games like Super Mario Bros. 3, Kirby’s Adventure, and Mega Man are huge inspirations. There’s a certain kind of creativity and fun that just emanates from all of those games, and it’s that same vibe we aspire to bring out in Fallen Leaf.

We’re also inspired by all the other indie devs that are still making great stuff to this day, whether it’s modern classics (Cave Story, Shovel Knight, Iconoclasts, etc.) or other projects that are still being developed.

Thank you for taking the time to talk to us! Please tell everyone when and where the game will be available

We’re working our hardest to finish Fallen Leaf as soon as possible! All I can say for now is that it will be coming out on Steam, so please add it to your wishlist!
